An update
Brian has written to Joseph Mooney (MP for Southland) outlining the risk the Proposed New Town Development at Gibbston Valley Resort poses to the Kawarau Gibbston Dark Sky Park.
Mooney’s office replied. Quote
“On behalf of Joseph Mooney, MP for Southland, thank you for your email regarding the Fast-Track proposal and its potential impact on the Kawarau Gibbston Dark Sky Park. Joseph does recall meeting you at the Wai Whakatā Wetland Project opening last year and appreciates the dedication you have shown to preserving the dark sky and promoting education within the Queenstown Lakes region.
Joseph has also taken the opportunity to view your website, where he admired the incredible night sky photography from the Gibbston Valley area.
Joseph appreciates your concerns regarding the lighting controls and the potential risks posed by the development. He will ensure these concerns are communicated to the relevant stakeholders as part of ongoing discussions around the Fast Track process.
Thank you again for taking the time to reach out to Joseph. Please feel free to follow up after the QLDC Council meeting tomorrow, and if you’d like to discuss in more detail with Joseph I am happy to endeavour to find a time for the two of you to connect again in-person.” Unquote
