Community Session. Come and share. Listen and be heard
Monday 4 November 2024 at 7pm at the Church Cellar Door and Cafe.
FOGCZ has reached over 100 persons strong. The Gibbston community has spoken. A growing voice that has to be listened to.
A selection of the voices in the 8 days in Spring:
“We believe that any development of this size needs to be fully discussed to understand the implications arising from water and sewage requirements, as well as careful attention being given to ensure the status of the Kawarau Gibbston Dark Sky Park is maintained”
“We are extremely concerned about the long term impact such a development would have on the existing local community, the traffic and environment.”
“I am vehemently against the fast tracking of the Gibbston Valley Subdivision. Because of the special nature of the Gibbston area we did the checks and balances the currently system of resource consent provides. Also this goes against the Gibbston Character zone and the dark sky's reserve that people of the valley have fought hard to establish to preserve our little piece of paradise.”
“There was no consultation with the Gibbston community. An additional 900 homes (a similar number of Arrowtown) will radically change the rural nature of Gibbston. The light pollution from 900 homes will drastically impact on our Dark Skies.Adding houses in Gibbston, far from schooling and centers of employment, in an area with no public transport simply does not make practical sense. Newly developed areas should be located close to Frankton or Queenstown, and locating these houses in Gibbston will unnecessarily add roading congestion.”
“I believe the environmental impact will negatively affect Gibbston. There is limited water in Gibbston. Also impacts from septic infiltration.
Such a high density is also outside of the original character zone and goes the "spirit" of the Gibbston character zone”
FOGCZ has invited Glyn Lewers, Joseph Mooney and a few QLDC councillors to the community session on Monday 4 November 2024. Some reporters are also invited.
In preparation for this session and with the objective of gathering more details, FOGCZ has sought a meeting with Greg Hunt of Gibbston Valley Station; the company responsible for the Fast Track application of 900 homes and a primary school.
Please come. To listen. Be heard.
